About Us

With a heritage dating back to 1961, PTM&W has decades of experience developing and distributing advanced epoxy and polyurethane systems. Originally rooted in the aerospace industry in Southern California, the company quickly gained recognition for its high-performance materials and exceptional service. Our commitment to quality, innovation, and fast, reliable delivery has helped us grow into a trusted supplier for a wide range of industrial applications across the country. At PTM&W, we take pride in our products, our people, and the long-standing relationships we’ve built with our customers.

Company History

Founded & Merger

Plastics and Tooling Materials and Wyndham Manufacturing presented itself for discussions to merge in 1981 and finalized its merger in 1982 to form PTM&W. Paul Livoni and Bill Ryan, the principals at Wyndham became Vice Presidents of the newly formed PTM&W Industries. Inc. After Paul Livoni’s retirement, the company comprised the three partners: Charles Owen – President, Bill Romey – Vice President and Sales Manager, and Bill Ryan – Vice President and Technical Director.

A Big Break

One of our early milestones was being fully qualified and specified for all categories of epoxy tooling materials by McDonnell Douglas Corporation. This achievement not only generated significant business but also opened doors to numerous other aerospace accounts throughout Southern California. Collaborating with these industry leaders enabled us to develop high-performance products that elevated our reputation and gave us a strong competitive advantage.

Company Growth & Successes

Initially, because there was such a large aerospace industry in Southern California, that was our main market, and we did quite well there with McDonnell Douglas, Northrop and Lockheed. As time went on, we established distributors in other parts of the country, and we were able to begin to develop products for other industrial applications. A major contribution to our product mix was the development of our line of rigid polyurethanes for prototype and production applications. We did quite well with those products, having very tough systems as well as very good fire retardant materials that received UL Fire Ratings.

Acquisition by MAKO

PTM&W Industries marked a major milestone with its acquisition by Mako Advanced Materials, a leader in advanced composite materials based in Henderson, Nevada. This transition brings new opportunities for PTM&W by combining its trusted legacy in composite resin systems, tooling products, adhesives, and coatings with Mako’s modern production and innovation capabilities. PTM&W will continue operations at its Santa Fe Springs, California facility, now supported by expanded resources including advanced mixing and coating operations from Henderson. The integration enhances PTM&W’s ability to serve key industries such as aerospace, defense, automotive, marine, sporting goods, and industrial applications, while also expanding R&D, production efficiency, and technical support. Founder and president Charles Owen will remain on as a consultant to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition, reinforcing PTM&W’s continued commitment to performance, quality, and customer success.
